- ABOUT THE ARTIST -
Kathryn grew up in Columbus, Georgia and declared early on that she would pursue art as a career. She began taking watercolor painting lessons in junior high and continued art lessons throughout high school. She went on to receive a BFA from Auburn University with a focus in graphic design and illustration. Upon graduation, Kathryn went to work as a Graphic Designer/Creative Director in Birmingham but began painting in her free time and selling her work through galleries and commissions.
Now living and working in Tuscaloosa, AL, Kathryn’s work references her graphic design background in composition and color while utilizing an illustrative style. She primarily paints female figures, often with a vintage twist, with the hope that her work will speak to people in a way that reminds them of themselves or someone they love and go beyond the pretty facade to ponder "who" the subject really is.
“I strive to stick to painting what I want to paint and to feel truly connected to it versus painting for the masses and to match the furniture. Having said that, I think in order to be successful, you have to find a happy medium. Of course I want my work to enhance the space in which it hangs, and to play to a palette that is relevant from a design standpoint.”
Kathryn participates in several art shows each year, shows her work in several galleries in the Southeast and also creates works by commission.
